1st Day of Kindergarten

So we're a little behind on posting the 1st day of kindergarten. But I'm happy to report that after almost two weeks, Jonathan still loves kindergarten. We have multiple questions for him every day after he comes home from school. He likes his teacher, is meeting some new friends, and enjoys lunch time.
I was sure that the tears would flow on the first day (for me), not Jonathan. But I actually did really well. My goal was not to cry in front of Jonathan and I succeeded. He's doing great and seems to really be enjoying it. He picked out a really nice KC Chiefs backpack.

Lost tooth, Saltdogs game & camping

I'm trying to cram in all our recent activities and events into one post, so bear with me. Jonathan recently lost his first tooth. It was loose for a few weeks and eating corn on the cob one day for lunch did the trick. Jonathan was very excited. The tooth fairy visited while we were camping.

Last week we got to go to a Lincoln Saltdogs game. Jonathan participated in Lincoln's Summer Reading Program. All the kids who participated got to be in a parade before the game and walk around the edge of the field. We had a fun time and captured a few great moments.

We took the kids on our first camping trip to Waubonsie State Park located in Iowa about an hour from Lincoln. We spent the afternoon setting up camp and exploring the area around us. Daddy made some wonderful burgers over the campfire and we enjoyed s'mores afterward. The kids didn't wind down and go to bed until about 10:00. One of the best parts about camping was looking up at all the stars. You just don't see stars in city, like you do out in the country-it was so wonderful. Daddy made breakfast on the camping stove we borrowed the next morning and we headed out to take a hike. The hike ended up to be quite an adventure. We ended up on a trail that was much longer than the mile long hike we thought was ahead of us. There was grass two feet taller than Jonathan and we used a stick to avoid running into spider webs. Johanna fell asleep about half way through the hike, mom and dad got to take turns carrying her up and down hills. At last we reached a paved road and daddy ran back to the car so he could rescue us. All and all our first camping trip was a success and we hope to do again this fall.

Here, There and Everywhere

In July we took a trip up north to Minnesota to visit Papa and Gramma Wally. We took a nice long hike on one of the bluffs that overlook the city of Red Wing.

Jonathan and Johanna have been taking swimming lessons this summer. They both enjoyed it a lot.

Goggles are fun.

Daddy, Jonathan and Johanna spent much of the summer participating in Lincoln Safari, which involved driving all over Lincoln looking for small posts that had a "rubbing" on it. They found 31 posts and discovered many great parks in Lincoln.
